Making the Last Day of Shabaan as Eid

Eating to Hearts full on the Last Day of Shabaan
Gathering to eat and celebrate on the last day of Shabaan

We put this question to Sahykh Muhammad ibn Saalih al-Uthaymeen, may Allaah preserve him, who replied as follows:

I think that this is closer to bidah (innovation) , and it should be disallowed rather than permitted, because it is being taken as an “Eid” (regular celebration) .

If it happened only once, then it is OK.

Our response is: we do not allow it and should not be encouraged.

And Allaah knows best.

Additionally, we should consider the saying of the Prophet pbuh in which he advised us saying that the Muslim should eat filling his stomach with one third air, one third water and one third food. (Bukhari).  Eating in modest quantities and refraining from throwing away food because we over filled our plates is better to Islamic teachings and practice.

May Allah bless all with a productive and uplifting month of Ramadan! (Moderator)
